Microprene is an ultra- thin, stretch neoprene that is superior as a base layer, but is also an excellent choice for any tropical snorkeling or diving environment.  Wearing Microprene under a thicker wet suit is like super-charging your exposure gear.  The extra layer of tiny air bubbles helps create a more effective insulator to significantly reduce heat loss.  It also adds a minimal amount of buoyancy.  When worn alone, Microprene provides benefits similar to Trilaminate, but is warmer and typically less expensive.  It's lightweight enough to be omfortable at the surface while protecting you from harmful UV rays.
